How common is group b strep in pregnancy?

My gynecologist recently mentioned that I'll be screened for Group B Strep during my pregnancy. She said it's a routine test. I'm curious to know how common it actually is for pregnant women to test positive for this bacteria.

I totally get it, pregnancy makes you worry about every single test and bacteria name. Group B Strep (GBS) is actually quite common, with about 15-25% of pregnant women carrying it naturally. Doctors routinely test for it around the 36th week, so please don't stress.

While staying fit and eating clean is great for pregnancy, Group B Strep is just a common bacteria that can live in the body regardless of your fitness level. It's fairly common, but doctors easily handle it with a simple antibiotic dose during labor if you test positive.

My pregnancy tracker app showed that GBS screening is a standard procedure in the third trimester. It is pretty common, affecting roughly 1 in 4 pregnant women. If the swab test comes back positive, doctors just administer IV antibiotics during delivery to keep the baby safe.

It is quite common, but there is a very simple, practical routine for it. Around your 35th to 37th week, just ask your doctor for the GBS swab test. It is a cheap and standard test that ensures complete safety for the newborn.

Hey dear, don't stress too much about GBS! It is super common and doesn't mean you are sick or did anything wrong. It's just a routine check that gynecologists do, and they know exactly how to manage it smoothly.
