How common is cholestasis of pregnancy?

During my pregnancy check-ups, my doctor briefly mentioned something called cholestasis. A friend also had some itching during her pregnancy and was tested for it. I was wondering how often this condition happens during pregnancy here in India.

It is not extremely common, but it happens to some pregnant women, ho na. Especially that severe itching on palms and soles is the main sign. If you are feeling like that, don't ignore it and immediately tell your gynecologist, haan.

It affects about 1 in 100 to 1 in 200 pregnancies, so it's relatively uncommon but very important to monitor. If you have intense itching without a rash, your doctor will order a simple bile acid blood test. It's easily managed once diagnosed, so please don't worry.

Hey, take a deep breath. Pregnancy cholestasis is not very common, but doctors are highly trained to handle it safely. If you are experiencing that typical itching on your hands and feet, just let your doctor know so they can run the right blood tests and keep you both safe.

My wife had this mild itching during her third trimester, and the doctor kept a close watch. While regular light walking really helped her stay active and positive, this is a liver issue, so you must follow your doctor's instructions strictly regarding any exercise and medication.

Please do not make the mistake of ignoring severe itching during pregnancy as 'just dry skin' like I did initially. It can become risky for the baby if left untreated. If you feel even slightly uncomfortable, force your doctor to do liver function tests immediately.

Even though it might not be very common, any liver-related symptom during pregnancy needs direct medical evaluation. It is never worth taking a risk or waiting to see if it goes away. Please get in touch with your obstetrician right away to be absolutely safe.
