Does zinc cause hair loss?

Lately, I've been taking zinc supplements for immunity, as everyone suggested. But then I read online that too much zinc can actually lead to hair loss. Is there any truth to this?

Wait, I thought zinc actually helps hair grow! I have been taking a multivitamin with zinc to control my hair fall, and it has actually helped. Taking way too much of it might cause issues though, so don't overdo the supplements.

Please be very careful with self-prescribed supplements. I took high doses of zinc last year thinking it would boost my immunity, but it severely upset my stomach and caused weird hair thinning due to mineral imbalance. Please see a doctor to check your actual zinc levels first.

Usually, a deficiency of zinc causes hair fall, which is why doctors prescribe it. But if you take high-dose zinc tablets for too long without testing, it can disturb other minerals like copper, and that might cause hair loss. Just eat a handful of pumpkin seeds or almonds daily instead of heavy pills.

Zinc is actually essential for muscle recovery and hair growth, so moderate amounts won't cause hair loss. I make sure to get mine from a clean diet combined with my daily run. If you are planning to take heavy synthetic supplements, just check with a physician first.

I manage my high blood pressure with regular walking and a simple diet, and I only take supplements when my tests show a deficiency. Too much zinc can lead to toxicity, which might indirectly cause hair thinning. Go get a routine blood panel done and consult your family doctor.

I used to lose so much hair and tried every hair pack from curd to onion juice. Eventually, my doctor told me my zinc was slightly low. But remember, excess of anything is bad, so don't take high zinc supplements for months. Balance it with natural food like lentils and curd.
