Does your bum get bigger during pregnancy?

Being in my first pregnancy, I'm noticing so many changes in my body. Lately, I feel like my bum is getting bigger along with my belly. Is this a common change that happens during pregnancy, or am I just imagining things?

Child, during pregnancy, the pelvic bones naturally widen to prepare for delivery, and the body stores fat to support the baby. It is a completely natural process. Just focus on eating well, keep doing light walking if your doctor permits, and don't worry about body changes.

I am also in my first trimester and noticing some changes in my hip area. Is it normal for this widening to happen so early, or does it happen mostly in the third trimester? I feel a bit conscious about my clothes fitting tightly already.

It's just the hormone relaxin doing its job to loosen the ligaments and widen your pelvis, alongside some necessary fat storage. It's a vital physiological change for a safe delivery. Don't worry about the size, just maintain a healthy, active lifestyle.

Yes, it is extremely common. The body shifts fat deposits and the pelvic structure widens naturally for childbirth.

When I noticed this during my own pregnancy, my doctor explained that the hormonal surge causes the pelvic joints to stretch and relax. Additionally, the body naturally deposits fat in the thighs and buttocks to act as energy reserves for breastfeeding later. It is a highly coordinated biological response.
