Does your brain shrink during pregnancy?

My sister joked that I have 'mom brain' already, and then I heard somewhere that your brain actually shrinks during pregnancy. I'm in my second trimester, and sometimes I feel so forgetful. Is this a real thing or just a funny old wives' tale?

I have PCOS and read up a lot on hormonal changes when I was trying to conceive. I did come across some articles saying grey matter volume changes during pregnancy, but it's not like permanent damage or actual 'shrinking' in a bad way. Definitely check with your gynac if you are feeling very forgetful.

There are some neurobiological studies indicating that the brain undergoes volume reduction in certain areas to remodel and prepare for motherhood, but it's temporary and fully functional. However, if you are experiencing severe brain fog or memory issues, it is always best to discuss it with your doctor during your regular scan visits.

Bro, my sister is pregnant right now and she forgets where she kept her phone like five times a day. We joke about 'baby brain' all the time, but I think it's just the insane hormones and sleep deprivation. It's a real thing but nothing to get scared about!

People on the internet say all kinds of scary things about pregnancy body changes. Don't go by random online articles or forums that say your brain is shrinking. Keep your obstetrician informed about any mood or memory changes you feel so they can guide you safely.

During my time, we just called it pregnancy exhaustion. When you don't sleep well and are constantly tired, your memory naturally slips. I used to drink soaked almond milk daily which really helped with the fatigue and focus, but don't worry, your brain is absolutely fine.

Haan, thoda brain fog aur bhulne ki aadat toh ho jati hai pregnancy mein, usey mummy brain bhi bolte hain na. Par iska matlab ye nahi ki dimaag sach mein chhota ho jata hai permanently. Bas hormonal changes hote hain, so load mat lo bilkul.

Oh, the pregnancy brain fog is so real! When I was pregnant last year, I actually put my car keys in the fridge once. It's just your body focusing all its energy on growing a tiny human, plus all those crazy hormones. Don't worry, you get your focus back slowly after the baby comes.
