Does xiidra cause hair loss or dry mouth?

I've been using Xiidra eye drops for my chronic dry eyes. Lately, I've noticed my mouth is very dry, and I'm also seeing more hair fall when I comb. Do these drops cause hair loss or dry mouth?

While managing my health, I have learned to read up on all medication details. These eye drops are for dry eyes and don't typically cause hair loss. However, some people do report an unusual taste or slight dry mouth if the drops drain into the throat. Keep drinking water and check with your eye specialist.

My daughter was prescribed these drops for severe dry eye issues. She never had any hair loss from it, but she did mention a bitter taste and a dry feeling in her mouth right after putting the drops. We found that pressing the corner of the eye near the nose for a minute helps prevent the drops from draining into the throat.

Keep your mind positive and do not let fear weaken your body's healing power. These drops are meant locally for your eyes and are highly unlikely to affect your hair. Sip some water mindfully if you feel any dryness in your throat, and trust that your health will improve.

I know how stressful it is to start a new prescription and worry about every single side effect, it can make you feel so uneasy. Hair loss is not a known side effect of these drops, but dry mouth or taste changes can happen because of how the tearducts connect to the throat. Try to take a deep breath, you are safe.

Beta, eye drops shouldn't cause your hair to fall out, so do not worry about that. For the dry mouth or bad taste, you can try sipping fresh water or chewing on a little fennel (saunf) after using the drops. If the dryness is too much, ask your eye doctor for advice.

According to the clinical study data my ophthalmologist shared, hair loss is not a documented side effect of these drops. Dysgeusia (unusual taste) and mild throat dryness occur in about 15% of patients because the liquid passes through the nasolacrimal duct. It is harmless, but you should report persistent symptoms to your physician.

For dry eyes, I always suggest resting your eyes from screens and using cold cucumber slices, but prescription drops are necessary if the doctor said so. Hair loss is very unlikely with this, but dry mouth can happen. If you get any severe irritation or swelling, please see your ophthalmologist immediately.
