Does weight loss help sleep apnea?

My wife complains constantly that my snoring has become unbearable, and my doctor also suggested I might have sleep apnea. He mentioned that losing weight could be beneficial for this condition. Is there a strong link between weight loss and improvement in sleep apnea?

Yes, absolutely. Extra weight around the neck blocks your airway at night. Lose some weight and you will sleep much better without gasping for breath.

I tried sleeping on my side and using special herbal teas, but real relief only came when I lost 8 kgs. It takes off the heavy load from your chest and throat naturally.

Haan, weight loss makes a huge difference, na. My heavy snoring and night gasping stopped completely once I got my weight down by walking regularly.

My mother suggested sleeping with elevated pillows, but our doctor advised weight loss is the permanent cure. Losing 10 kgs has drastically reduced my sleep apnea episodes.

Losing even 10% of your body weight can significantly clear your airway during sleep. Try to pair weight loss with a proper sleep study if your symptoms are severe.

I sometimes wake up choking at night and it is so terrifying. Has anyone else cured this completely just by losing weight, or did you have to use a CPAP machine?
