Does weight gain cause snoring?

My husband has gained quite a bit of weight in the past year, and now his snoring is so loud that I can barely sleep. My mother-in-law said it's because of his weight. Can weight gain actually lead to someone starting to snore or making it worse?

I didn't know weight gain could affect your throat like that. My uncle recently started snoring very loudly after putting on weight. Does anyone know if losing weight makes it go away completely, or does he need to see a specialist?

Yes, absolutely. Fat deposition around the neck area narrows your airway, which causes the tissues to vibrate when you breathe. It is a direct cause of snoring and can lead to sleep apnea. Address it before it ruins your sleep quality.

Yes, it definitely does. Sleeping on your side instead of your back can help reduce the snoring sound immediately while you work on losing weight.

Tell me about it! Ever since my belly and neck expanded, my wife says I sound like a diesel generator at night, haha. Weight gain is the biggest culprit for snoring, no doubt about it.

Yeah bro, totally. I gained 12 kg during college exams and started snoring like crazy. My roommate was so annoyed. Once I hit the gym and shed those extra kilos, the snoring just disappeared.
