Does water softener help eczema?

My skin is always so dry and itchy, and the doctor said it looks like eczema. Someone suggested that hard water might be making it worse, and that a water softener could help. Is there any truth to this, does it really work for eczema?

In my experience, gentle living makes a big difference for sensitive skin. Softening our bathing water helped soothe my skin irritation quiet a bit as it prevents harsh mineral buildup. Along with this, doing daily pranayama helps reduce stress, which is often a big trigger for eczema flare-ups.

I totally get it, dealing with itchy eczema is so frustrating and stressful. For me, installing a basic shower filter to soften the hard water made a huge difference in reducing the redness. Hard water has minerals that dry out the skin barrier, so softening it definitely helps give some relief.

I was actually researching this online yesterday because my hands have been getting very dry. A lot of threads say that hard water leaves mineral deposits that irritate eczema-prone skin, so a softener should theoretically help. Has anyone here actually tried a specific brand and seen good results?

Eczema can really drain you mentally, especially when you are hiding your dry patches and constantly scratching. Using soft water did help reduce the daily irritation for me, which felt like such a blessing. Please hang in there, finding the right routine takes time but it gets better.

I can only share what worked in my house, but switching to soft water stopped that terrible post-shower itching for me. Earlier, the hard water was making my skin feel extremely tight and flaky. Now, my skin feels much more comfortable, though I still have to use my regular eczema creams.

My son used to scratch his legs constantly after his evening bath because of our hard borewell water. We finally put a water softener filter in our bathroom tap, and his eczema patches have definitely softened and calmed down. It really helps, but do keep applying their doctor-prescribed moisturizer right after the bath.
