Does vomiting remove alcohol from your system?

A friend of mine who drank too much once tried to make herself throw up, thinking it would clear the alcohol faster. Does vomiting actually get rid of the alcohol that's already entered your system, or is it not that simple?

My elders always say that rest and simple home foods are best when you feel sick, but vomiting won't clean your blood of alcohol. Once it is absorbed, only time can help. If you feel extremely unwell, please consult a doctor instead of waiting.

Beta, once you drink, the alcohol enters the blood very quickly. Vomiting only clears what is left in the stomach, not what is already in your system. Sip some warm lemon water slowly and rest your body.

I wish it were that simple, but your liver doesn't have a shortcut button! Vomiting just leaves you with a burning throat and a worse headache. Better to just accept the hangover, drink water, and sleep it off.

Vomiting has no effect on the alcohol already in your bloodstream. It's a waste of energy and can cause severe dehydration. Stick to drinking lots of water and electrolytes, and let your body recover naturally.

Please don't force yourself to throw up, it will only make you feel more tired. Just rest quietly, drink some plain water, and let your body recover slowly.

Our bodies are beautiful systems that process everything in their own time. Forcefully vomiting only disrupts this natural process and causes pain. Stay calm, drink some warm water, and let yourself heal peacefully.

In my experience, throwing up never made me feel sober any faster. It actually just made my throat sore and made me feel weaker the next morning. I find drinking coconut water and sleeping much more helpful.

My doctor explained that alcohol is absorbed rapidly through the stomach and small intestine. Vomiting only prevents the absorption of whatever unabsorbed alcohol is still sitting in the stomach, but it won't lower the alcohol level already in your blood. Rehydration is key.
