Does venlafaxine cause weight gain?

My doctor recently put me on venlafaxine, and I'm trying to be prepared for any potential side effects. I've heard some antidepressants can cause weight gain. Has anyone experienced this with venlafaxine, and if so, how did you manage it?

Oh, I panicked so much when I gained 3 kgs in the first month! But my doctor explained it was just my appetite coming back because my anxiety was finally under control. It stabilized after that, so don't worry.

I was researching this too before starting my dose. From what I read, it's actually less likely to cause weight gain compared to other older antidepressants, but some people still experience it.

Weight changes on venlafaxine vary from person to person; some gain, while others actually lose weight. Keep a log of your meals and stay active. If you notice a sudden jump, discuss it with your doctor immediately.

Yes, it can cause a slight increase in weight for some people because of appetite changes. Just try to eat healthy and take care of your health first.

At my age, even breathing causes weight gain! But yes, this medicine did make me crave sweets a bit more. You just have to hide the biscuits from yourself.

It can increase cravings, but you can manage it by snacking on high-fiber foods like roasted chana, sprouts, and fruits. Be careful about extra carbs and sugar intake while you are on this medication.
