Does ultrasound show kidney stones?

I've been having some dull pain in my side lately, and my doctor wants me to get an ultrasound. My neighbor mentioned it could be kidney stones, and he said ultrasound is a good way to check. Will an ultrasound clearly show if I have kidney stones?

Yes, an ultrasound is usually the first line of defense to detect kidney stones. It is quick, non-invasive, and easily catches stones in the kidneys. However, very small stones in the ureter might occasionally require a CT scan for clearer detection.

Oh, it absolutely does! That cold gel on your belly and the doctor sliding the scanner will tell you exactly how many little rocks you are harboring. My ultrasound last year showed two small stones, which explained the back pain I was complaining about.

I completely understand the anxiety you might be feeling while waiting for tests. Yes, the ultrasound will show the stones and give you some answers. When I went through it, getting the scan done actually brought me peace of mind because we finally knew what was causing the terrible pain.

Yes dear, an ultrasound is very effective in showing kidney stones. Have faith, drink plenty of water to naturally flush things out if they are small, and let the doctors guide you. Keep a calm mind and take care of your health.

In my experience, yes. I had severe lower back pain last winter and the doctor ordered an ultrasound. The report clearly showed a 5mm stone in my left kidney, which helped my doctor start the right treatment quickly.
