Does thyroid cause hair loss?

My hair has been falling a lot lately, jhad raha hai bahut. A friend suggested it could be related to my thyroid, which was diagnosed last year. Just wanted to confirm if this is a common symptom.

Honestly, yes, it really does. I was losing so much hair last year before my hypothyroid diagnosis was confirmed. Once my doc sorted my dosage, the shedding stopped and things got better, so please get your levels checked soon.

Every morning I used to find more hair on my pillow than on my head, I swear! This thyroid plays with everything from energy to hair roots. Don't worry, just start the doctor's medicine and you won't have to plan for a wig like I did.

I totally get it, seeing bunch of hair on your brush can be so stressful. It actually happens because thyroid hormones control your cell growth, including hair roots. Once you start treatment, this issue usually settles down nicely.

Yes, thyroid imbalance definitely causes hair thinning. Getting a simple T3, T4, and TSH blood test will give you the clear picture.

My teenage daughter had severe hair fall and we couldn't figure out why until her TSH came back very high. We started her on medication as prescribed by the paediatrician and her hair volume is slowly returning now.
