Does thyroid cause facial hair?

For a while now, I've been noticing some fine hair growing on my face, which wasn't there before. I also have a thyroid condition. Could my thyroid imbalance be causing this unwanted facial hair?

I literally just finished my treatment for hypothyroidism and my facial hair has reduced so much. When my thyroid was high, I started getting thick hair on my chin which was so frustrating. Don't worry, once your levels are balanced with medicine, it gets much better.

My endocrinologist explained that an underactive thyroid slows metabolism and can sometimes raise androgen levels indirectly, which causes hirsutism or facial hair. It is often linked with PCOS too. Getting a full hormonal panel is the best way to identify the exact cause.

I have also noticed some new hair on my chin recently and I am a bit shy to talk about it. Does this mean I definitely have a thyroid problem, or could it be something else? Should I go to a general doctor or a skin specialist first?

Yes, thyroid changes can sometimes cause facial hair to grow. Please don't feel conscious or stressed about it, as it is a very common medical symptom. A doctor will easily help you balance your hormones.

I completely understand how stressful and embarrassing it feels to notice facial hair, I used to panic about it constantly. It is very often connected to thyroid or PCOS, which are both highly manageable. Please take a deep breath and book a doctor's appointment, they see this every day.

My teenage daughter started getting fine facial hair and we were so worried. When we did a routine checkup, her thyroid levels were slightly off. Correcting her thyroid with a pediatric specialist really helped control the issue, so please get it checked early.

Yes, hormonal imbalances can cause unusual hair growth on the face. Doing daily pranayama like Ujjayi and Kapalbhati helps stimulate the thyroid gland and restore balance naturally over time. However, you must continue your doctor's prescribed treatment alongside this.

Yes, thyroid dysfunction can disrupt the delicate balance of estrogen and testosterone, leading to facial hair in women. It is a very common clinical complaint we see. I highly recommend consulting your doctor for a proper blood test to check both thyroid and androgen levels.

Yes, it can cause facial hair due to hormone changes. Instead of spending thousands on laser treatments or parlor visits first, just spend 400 rupees on a thyroid test. If you fix the internal thyroid issue with simple daily pills, the hair growth will automatically slow down.

Yes, thyroid issues can trigger facial hair growth. Don't waste time trying various facial waxes or home remedies which can irritate your skin. Just book a thyroid and PCOS screening online, get the reports, and consult an endocrinologist directly.
