Does the depo shot cause weight gain?

I'm considering getting the Depo-Provera shot for contraception. My sister used it and complained about gaining weight quite fast. I wanted to know if this is a common issue with the depo shot?

Dealing with weight issues is already so tough when you have PCOS, so I understand your caution. The depo shot is known to cause some weight gain in some people because of the progesterone. It is best to discuss your hormonal history with a doctor before taking it.

Yaar, don't stress too much about it right now! Some people gain a little bit of weight and some don't see any difference at all. Just focus on eating healthy home food and see how your body reacts after the first shot.

I was actually researching about the Depo shot yesterday on some forums. A lot of users mentioned that it does cause an increase in appetite, which leads to weight gain. It's so interesting how different contraceptive methods affect us so differently.

I am actually very new to this topic and thoda nervous about starting any hormonal methods. Does this weight gain happen to everyone who takes the shot, or is it only for some? Pls let me know if anyone has personal experience.

The shot can sometimes slow down your active metabolism or increase cravings. If your doctor says it is safe, try to get at least 45 minutes of brisk walking or light cardio daily. Staying physically active is the best way to combat any hormonal weight gain.

My partner took the depo shot last year and she definitely noticed a bit of weight gain and mood swings. She had to really watch her diet and stay active to manage it. It is a real side effect, so be prepared for some lifestyle adjustments.

My sister was considering this shot and our mother suggested some traditional dietary changes to prevent bloating. But ultimately, we consulted her doctor who explained that tracking your appetite is key since the shot can increase food cravings. Trust your doctor's guidance on this.
