Does the contraceptive patch cause weight gain?

My gynaecologist suggested the contraceptive patch as an option for me. One of my friends told me that she gained a lot of weight when she used it. Is this a common side effect or should I not worry too much about it?

Honestly, the only thing my patch did was make me crave late-night butter chicken! Jokes aside, most of the initial weight is just water retention bloating, not actual fat. Give your body a couple of months to realize it's not actually pregnant, it usually settles down.

I totally understand why you are stressing about this, as hormone changes can make anyone super anxious. It is completely valid to worry about side effects. Just keep a calm mind, track your weight for a few weeks, and discuss any changes with your doctor to ease your mind.

I was blaming my contraceptive patch for putting on kilos, but when I got my thyroid panel and routine blood tests done, my TSH was completely off. Please get a proper blood checkup and talk to your gynaecologist before deciding the patch is the only culprit.

Our bodies are beautiful systems that sometimes take time to adjust to new elements. Stay positive and feed your mind with happy thoughts while you adjust to the patch. Eat clean, drink lots of water, and trust your body to find its natural balance soon.

In our days we had different options, but hormonal changes always behave similarly. A little weight fluctuation is very normal in the first few months of starting any such patch. Don't worry too much, just eat healthy home-cooked meals and let your system adjust.

At this age, even looking at a samosa causes weight gain, so don't blame the patch too quickly! It can cause some mild fluid retention initially. If it's a lot of weight though, definitely go ask your doctor to change the brand.
