Does the combined pill cause weight gain?

I'm thinking of starting the combined birth control pill, but my cousin told me she gained a lot of weight when she was on it. I'm a bit worried about this. Is weight gain a common side effect of the combined pill?

The combined pill can sometimes cause temporary weight gain, which is usually just fluid retention rather than actual fat. This typically resolves after a couple of months once your body adjusts to the hormones. If the weight gain persists, it's best to speak with your doctor about trying a different formulation.

Years ago, when I was on the combined pill, I also worried a lot about my weight creeping up. Looking back, I realized it was just minor water retention and my weight went back to normal soon after. Don't worry too much, just keep a healthy daily routine.

I can only share my personal experience with the combined pill. For the first two months, I felt quite bloated and my scale went up by 2 kgs, but after that, my body stabilized and I lost that extra weight without doing anything extra. It just took some time to settle.

I was just reading a medical blog about this because I'm planning to start the pill soon. It seems most studies suggest there is no significant long-term weight gain, but initial bloating is quite common. It's reassuring to know it's mostly temporary.

When I visited the gynecology department at Apollo, my doctor told me that every individual's hormonal response is unique. While some experience minor weight changes due to fluid retention, others don't gain anything at all. You should get a proper consultation to find a brand that fits your body type.
