Does the birth control patch cause weight gain?

My doctor suggested the birth control patch as an option, but I've heard from some friends that it can lead to weight gain. I'm really trying to maintain my current weight. Is weight gain a common side effect of the birth control patch?

I used the birth control patch for about six months and gained around 4 kgs due to water retention and increased appetite. Once my body got used to it and I managed my diet, the extra weight went away. It's mostly fluid retention in the beginning, so don't worry too much.

Hey, it is completely normal to be worried about side effects when starting any hormonal birth control. Some girls do notice a small amount of bloating or water weight initially, but it usually settles down. Just listen to your body and don't stress yourself out.

The hormones in the patch can sometimes increase your appetite, leading to subtle weight gain. To counter this, focus on a high-protein diet and do regular strength training or cardio. Keeping your calories in check will easily prevent any major weight fluctuations.

Before buying expensive patches or starting them, budget for a proper gynecologist consultation which might cost 500-800 rupees. It is better to spend on a proper doctor's advice first rather than spending money later on treating unexpected side effects.

OMG, yes! My roommate used it and she felt super bloated for the first few weeks, but honestly, it went away after she adjusted her diet. It's different for everyone, so maybe give it a month or two to see how your body reacts.

I have used various hormonal contraceptives over the years, including the patch. While hormones do cause some temporary bloating, actual fat gain only happens if you give in to the increased cravings. Track your meals and drink plenty of water to flush out the excess sodium.

I was also thinking of switching to the patch, but I am very scared about gaining weight. Does it also cause mood swings along with the weight changes? Please share your experience if possible.
