Does testosterone replacement cause weight gain?

I'm considering testosterone replacement therapy to help with my low energy levels. I'm also watching my weight. Does testosterone replacement cause weight gain, or can I manage it with diet and exercise?

My husband went through this when he started his replacement therapy last year. He initially gained a few kilos, which the doctor said was just water retention and muscle building. After a few months, his body fat actually reduced, so don't worry too much about the scale early on.

Hormone changes can definitely affect your body weight and metabolism. While you must follow your doctor's advice on hormone therapy, drinking warm fennel water and keeping an active routine can help with water retention. If the weight gain is sudden and rapid, please consult your doctor immediately.

Our bodies go through various phases when we try to heal and balance them. Some initial weight change is just the body's natural response to adjusting to the therapy. Stay positive, keep eating clean, and let your doctor guide your path forward.

I have been on TRT for two years and went through this exact phase. Yes, you will gain some weight initially, but it is mostly water and muscle, not fat. To keep it under control, make sure you watch your sodium intake and keep doing regular resistance training.

When you start TRT, expect some initial scale fluctuations because of temporary water retention and lean muscle gain. If you are tracking your weight, focus on fat percentage rather than just the raw number. Schedule a quick review with your doctor if the weight gain seems excessive.

In my practice, I often see patients notice a slight increase in weight during the first few weeks of testosterone therapy. It is usually mild edema or fluid retention, which is a common side effect. Keep an eye on your blood pressure and discuss any concerns with your healthcare provider.

It is quite common to see the scale go up when you start hormone replacement. A simple solution is to reduce salt in your food to prevent water retention and make sure you walk for at least 30 minutes daily. Definitely keep your doctor updated on any major changes.

I know how frustrating it is to gain weight when you are trying to get healthy. Initially, testosterone can cause some water weight, which can't be fixed by home remedies alone. Give your body a few weeks to adjust and make sure your doctor is monitoring your hormone dosage.
