Does tamoxifen cause weight gain?

I've been on Tamoxifen for a few months now, and I feel like I'm gaining weight. Is weight gain a known side effect of this medicine?

Yes, it is very common to notice some weight gain or bloating because of the changes in your estrogen levels and fluid retention. Try to focus on a balanced, low-salt diet to reduce water weight and keep moving as much as your health permits.

I was researching this for my mother's prescription. It looks like the weight gain is often due to fluid retention and a slowed metabolism caused by hormonal suppression. It seems very common, but manageable with consistent diet monitoring.

My daughter faced this issue during her treatment and it really bothered her self-esteem. We helped her by cooking healthy, low-calorie home meals and going for pleasant evening walks together. Be gentle on yourself, your main recovery is what matters most.

Yes, it does cause weight gain for many, but staying active and reducing processed foods helps a lot in keeping it under control.

Hormonal changes can slow down your digestion and cause bloating. I found drinking warm fennel seed water in the morning helps reduce water retention naturally. But if you see sudden, rapid weight gain, please consult your doctor to check for fluid buildup.
