Does taking birth control after sex prevent pregnancy?

My friend had unprotected sex last night and is really panicking about getting pregnant. She's asking if taking birth control pills the morning after can prevent it. Does taking birth control after sex actually prevent pregnancy?

Regular birth control pills won't work the same way after the act, you need emergency contraceptive pills for that. Please check the timing carefully because they usually work best within 72 hours. I get so anxious about these things, so please consult a gynecologist online quickly to be 100% sure.

Actually yaar, normal daily contraceptive pills won't help after the act. You specifically need an emergency contraceptive pill, and the sooner you take it, the better. Just check with a local doc or gynaec online to be absolutely safe.

Bro, regular birth control pills don't work like that after sex. You need an emergency contraceptive pill like i-Pill, and you have to take it as soon as possible. Don't delay it, okay?

Since I have PCOS, my cycle is already mess, but from what I know regular birth control pills aren't meant for after-sex protection. You need an emergency morning-after pill, and even those can throw your periods off quite a bit. Better to talk to a doctor instead of guessing.

Taking regular daily pills after the deed is like wearing a helmet after you already fell off the scooter! You need an emergency pill for this situation. Go to a chemist or consult a doctor quickly, and don't panic.
