Does sulfate shampoo cause hair loss?

My hair has been falling out quite a lot lately, and I'm trying to figure out if my haircare products are to blame. I use a shampoo that contains sulfates, and a friend mentioned that sulfate shampoos can cause hair loss. Is this true?

These chemical-heavy modern shampoos are very harsh on the scalp. It is always better to wash your hair with reetha, shikakai, and amla powders like we did in our youth. If you must use shampoo, choose a mild, chemical-free one.

Sulfate is basically a strong detergent that cleans grease. It doesn't directly kill your hair roots, but it can make your hair very dry, leading to breakage. Just buy a mild shampoo and don't wash your hair daily.

I can only share what worked for me. I had terrible hair fall last year, and switching to a sulfate-free shampoo definitely made my scalp feel less dry and reduced the breakage. It might be worth trying to see if it suits you.

Sulfate shampoos can strip away the natural oils, making your scalp sensitive and dry. While it doesn't cause medical hair loss directly, dry hair breaks much faster. Try oiling your hair lightly an hour before washing.

Bro, I switched to sulfate-free shampoo thinking my hair fall would stop, but honestly, nothing changed. My dermatologist told me my hair loss was genetic, not because of shampoo. Check with a doctor before spending on expensive shampoos.

Sulfates can dry out the hair shaft, leading to breakage, but they do not cause androgenetic alopecia or telogen effluvium. For persistent hair fall, it is best to visit a dermatologist to diagnose the root cause rather than just changing hair products.

Hair health depends more on your diet and blood circulation than just the shampoo. Make sure you are eating enough protein and staying active with daily exercise to keep your scalp healthy, regardless of what shampoo you use.

External products only do so much. If your diet lacks iron, zinc, and healthy fats, no shampoo can stop hair fall. Make sure you are eating dry fruits, seeds, and leafy greens before blaming sulfates.
