Does stopping smoking cause weight gain?

Seriously considering quitting smoking for good, but I've heard from many people that they gain a lot of weight after stopping. Does stopping smoking cause weight gain, and if so, is it something I can prevent?

Since I have thyroid issues, my metabolism is already slow, so weight gain is a constant battle for me. Stopping smoking can temporarily slow down your metabolism, making weight gain common. It is best to consult a doctor to plan your diet during this transition.

Haan na, actually when people quit, they start eating sweets or chewing gum to replace the cigarette habit. So the extra calories cause the weight gain, not just quitting itself. But health benefits of quitting are way bigger, so don't worry about a few kilos!

Yes, it can happen because food suddenly starts tasting so much better when you quit! 😋 Your appetite goes up, but you can easily manage it by snacking on roasted chana or carrots instead of chips. Go for it, quitting is the best decision!

Weight management is already quite tricky when you have hormonal issues like PCOS. Quitting smoking can alter your appetite, so it might cause some weight gain initially. I'd suggest keeping healthy snacks nearby and not being too harsh on yourself.

I quit smoking eight months ago and honestly, I did gain about 4 kgs in the first two months because I was constantly munching on dry fruits to keep my hands busy. But once the cravings stopped, I started working out and lost all of it easily.

Dekho boss, smoking chhodne se thoda wazan badh sakta hai kyunki nicotine appetite daba ke rakhta hai. Par lung cancer aur heart attack se toh wazan badhna hazaar guna behtar hai na? Shuru me thoda control rakho, sab normal ho jayega.

Your metabolism takes a slight hit when you quit nicotine. To counter this, I highly recommend starting a daily 45-minute brisk walk or some light home workouts, if your doctor says it's okay. It keeps your mind off smoking and burns those extra calories.
