Does stopping minoxidil cause hair loss?

For my hair loss, I've been using minoxidil for a few years now, and it's helped a lot. I'm thinking of stopping soon as I feel my hair is better, but I'm scared about losing all the progress. Does stopping minoxidil cause all the hair to fall out again?

I have PCOS and was considering minoxidil for my thinning hair. My dermatologist warned me that stopping it will cause the hair loss to return to its original rate. It doesn't permanently damage your hair, but you do lose the progress you made, so talk to your doctor first.

Haan na, this is actually true. If you stop minoxidil suddenly, the hair that grew because of it starts falling out within a few months. It is like a commitment, once you start, you have to keep using it to maintain the results.

Honestly, minoxidil only works as long as you apply it. If you stop, that localized blood flow drops and the hair sheds. Along with any treatment, make sure you are eating enough protein and lifting weights to keep your overall hormone levels healthy.

I am facing severe hair fall lately and my friend suggested minoxidil. But reading about this shedding after stopping makes me a bit scared to start. Is there any natural alternative that doesn't have this kind of dependency?

I can only tell you what happened to me. I used 5% minoxidil for a year, got great results, and then stopped because I got lazy. Within three months, my hair thinned out badly, almost worse than before. That was just my personal experience though.

This exact question kept me awake for weeks before I started my hair treatment! Yes, stopping it does trigger hair fall, which is terrifying to think about. But don't panic, if you consult a good doctor, they can help you taper it off slowly if needed.
