Does statin cause kidney damage?

My doctor recently prescribed statins for my cholesterol. I was reading about it online, and some articles mentioned kidney damage as a possible side effect. Is there a real risk of statins causing kidney damage, ya phir it's just general fear-mongering?

Mere chacha ji bhi statin khate hain cholesterol ke liye, unhe toh koi kidney ki pareshani nahi hui. Par doctor saab se pooch kar hi dawa leni chahiye, khud se kuch mat kijiye.

While statins are generally safe, keeping a clean vegetarian diet low in saturated fats helps manage cholesterol naturally, which might help lower your medication dosage. Always discuss your kidney function tests with your physician before changing anything.

I have been taking statins for over twelve years now for my heart. My doctors keep checking my kidney function with routine blood tests every six months and everything has been normal. Don't worry, but do your regular checkups.

Usually, statins are safe for kidneys, but you must monitor your blood reports regularly under your doctor's guidance.

My dad was also very scared about this when he started his cholesterol meds. The doc told us that serious kidney issues are extremely rare with statins. Just make sure to get the regular LFT and KFT blood tests done as prescribed.
