Does smoking cigarettes cause weight gain?

I'm trying to quit smoking cigarettes but I'm worried about gaining weight. I've heard from a few people that stopping smoking can lead to weight gain. Does smoking cigarettes cause weight gain at all?

Cigarettes don't directly cause weight gain; actually, they tend to suppress your appetite. However, smoking can negatively affect your insulin levels, which might lead to more fat storage around your stomach. It is far better to manage your weight through a clean, fiber-rich vegetarian diet.

Actually, smoking itself doesn't cause weight gain, but quitting almost always does because your metabolism slows down and your appetite returns. When I quit, I gained 6 kgs because I kept snacking to replace the cigarettes. My tip is to keep healthy, low-calorie snacks like roasted chana nearby during the transition.

I can't provide any medical facts, but in my own experience, my weight stayed the same when I smoked, but it shot up right after I quit. I think it was because I started enjoying the taste of food so much more. Quitting was still the best thing I did, regardless of the scale.

I ignored my sudden weight gain and breathing issues while smoking, thinking it was just due to age, and I ended up with high blood pressure and prediabetes. Smoking damages your metabolism and cardiovascular health silently. Please don't ignore these signs and go see a doctor for a thorough health checkup.

This whole weight and metabolism connection is so confusing and makes me really anxious! I keep reading that smoking can mess up your thyroid or metabolic hormones, which could technically cause weight issues later on. Please don't stress too much, but it is definitely best to consult a doctor to get a clear picture.

My son gained quite a bit of weight after he decided to quit smoking last semester, which made him feel very discouraged. I had to explain to him that his body was just resetting itself and that eating healthy home food would balance it out. It is a normal phase, so please don't lose heart.
