Does sls cause hair loss?

I'm experiencing a lot of hair fall lately, and someone told me to check if my shampoo contains SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate). They said it can be very harmful. Does SLS in shampoos actually cause hair loss?

Honestly I have been losing so much hair lately and someone told me it is because of my SLS shampoo. I switched to a mild chemical-free one last week but my hairfall is still the same. Has anyone else actually noticed a real difference after changing their shampoo, or am I just overthinking this?

In my experience, harsh chemicals like SLS can definitely dry out your scalp and weaken the roots over time. Along with using a natural shikakai cleanser, I found that daily pranayama really improves scalp blood flow. Just be gentle with your hair and let it heal naturally.

Look, SLS is just a foaming agent and it won't directly make your hair fall out from the roots unless you have a very sensitive or dry scalp. If your scalp feels too dry or itchy after washing, then definitely switch to a sulfate-free shampoo. But also check your diet and stress levels, as those are usually the real culprits.

My dermatologist actually explained this to me last month. SLS doesn't cause hormonal or genetic hair loss, but its strong stripping action can damage the hair shaft and cause breakage. He advised me to use a mild, sulfate-free cleanser twice a week instead of washing daily with harsh shampoos.

My teenage daughter was losing clumps of hair and we got so scared. We stopped all her fancy store-bought shampoos and switched to a very basic baby shampoo and started curd masks at home. Her scalp irritation went away and the hairfall has reduced a lot now.
