Does slow digestion cause weight gain?

I've been struggling with slow digestion for a while now, often feeling bloated after meals. I've also noticed some unexplained weight gain. Could my slow digestion be a reason for this weight increase?

I personally struggled with severe bloating and slow digestion for a year, and I definitely noticed my weight creeping up during that time. For me, drinking warm water and walking after dinner really helped improve both my gut and my weight. Everyone is different, but this was my experience.

I totally get it, feeling constantly bloated and heavy makes you feel so uncomfortable in your own body. Slow digestion can slow down your overall metabolism, leading to gradual weight gain. Focus on small, frequent meals and give your body some rest.

With long sitting hours at work, my digestion slowed down and I gained weight too. I fixed it by scheduling 15-minute walks after lunch and drinking more water during office hours. It's about practical lifestyle adjustments that fit your daily schedule.

I consulted a gastroenterologist at Apollo Hospital for my slow digestion issues. He explained that while it causes bloating and water retention, actual fat gain is usually linked to thyroid or hormonal metabolism. You should get a proper diagnosis from a specialist instead of guessing.

I used to panic thinking my slow digestion meant my metabolism was permanently damaged and I would keep gaining weight. But once I added fiber to my diet and started sleeping on time, my digestion normalized and so did my weight. Don't worry, it's very manageable.

I completely understand how frustrating it is when you eat healthy but still feel heavy and see the scale go up. It used to make me feel so helpless and down. Please be gentle with yourself, sometimes our metabolism just needs a little time and care to recover.

Slow digestion often happens when there is a lack of fiber and enzymes in your food. I highly recommend adding freshly prepared buttermilk with roasted cumin and fiber-rich vegetables to your meals. Be careful with hard-to-digest heavy foods like paneer at night.
