Does sleeplessness cause weight gain?

For the past few months, I haven't been sleeping well due to stress, barely getting 4-5 hours a night. I've also noticed that I've put on some weight recently. Is it possible that sleeplessness is causing my weight gain?

Yes, sleep deprivation directly messes with your hunger hormones, ghrelin and leptin, making you crave high-calorie food the next day. Also, when you are tired, your workouts suffer. Consistent 7-8 hours of sleep is just as important as your gym routine and diet for weight management.

I recently went through a phase of severe insomnia and gained 5 kgs in just two months because of constant late-night snacking and fatigue. Once I regulated my sleep schedule and stopped using screens before bed, my weight naturally started going back down.

Absolutely true. Sleeping on time naturally curbs those late-night cravings and keeps your metabolism healthy.

Sleeplessness causes high cortisol levels, which lead to both weight gain and elevated blood pressure, as I experienced firsthand. It is highly important to focus on a calm lifestyle and get regular medical checkups to monitor your health parameters.

I was researching this and read that lack of sleep slows down your metabolism and reduces insulin sensitivity. So your body basically stores fat more easily when you are sleep-deprived. It's crazy how much sleep controls our biology.
