Does seborrheic dermatitis cause hair loss?

I have seborrheic dermatitis on my scalp and it's quite irritating. Lately, I've also been noticing some significant hair thinning. I'm wondering if there's a connection, does seborrheic dermatitis typically lead to hair loss?

It definitely makes your hair fall, but don't buy a wig just yet! The hair loss is temporary because the roots are just irritated by all the oil and fungus. Treat the dermatitis and your hair will find its way back home.

I had a bad case of this and visited a specialist at Aster Medcity. She explained that the inflammation from seborrheic dermatitis weakens the hair anchor, leading to shedding. Please consult a dermatologist for a proper prescription shampoo.

Yes, it causes hair loss but indirectly. The buildup of yeast and oil clogs the follicles, and scratching worsens the damage. Use an antifungal shampoo like Selsun or Nizoral twice a week and leave it on for 5 minutes before rinsing.

Yes, it can cause hair shedding. Along with whatever topical lotion you use, try cutting down on refined sugar and dairy, as they can trigger excess sebum production on your scalp. Regular workouts also help reduce stress, which is a major trigger.

I completely understand how frustrating it is to see hair everywhere on the floor. I faced this last winter and what helped me was washing my hair regularly with a mild ketoconazole shampoo. Once the itching stopped, my hair fall went down too.

Hey, don't stress too much about the hair fall! It is a super common issue and totally reversible. Just focus on keeping your scalp clean and dry, and avoid putting heavy oils on your hair until the dermatitis is completely cured.

Yes, it does. The yeast on your scalp causes inflammation which damages the hair roots. Instead of wasting money on fancy organic shampoos, just go to a dermatologist and get a medical-grade coal tar or ketoconazole shampoo.

I have seen many people in this group struggle with this. Yes, it causes thinning, but please don't worry because the hair always grows back once the scalp is healthy again. Keep your comb clean and wash your hair regularly with lukewarm water.
