Does sabudana cause weight gain?

My family eats a lot of sabudana khichdi, especially during fasts. I'm trying to be mindful of my weight these days, and I heard somewhere that sabudana might be high in calories. Does sabudana cause weight gain if eaten regularly?

Sabudana is very pure and light, we eat it during fasts for good energy. But if you make it with lots of peanuts, potatoes, and ghee, then it will definitely increase weight. Keep it simple and light, then there is no issue.

Sabudana does have a lot of carbohydrates, which can lead to weight gain if eaten in large portions. Try to enjoy it occasionally as a treat rather than a daily meal, and you will be absolutely fine.

In my personal experience, sabudana is very high in starch and carbs. Whenever I ate sabudana khichdi regularly during fasting season, I noticed my weight going up slightly. Now I eat it in very small quantities.

Sabudana is basically pure starch, which means it has a high glycemic index and plenty of calories. If you are on a weight loss journey, a clinical nutritionist can help you plan how to balance carbs like sabudana with protein to avoid weight spikes.

If you have PCOS, sabudana can cause a quick spike in insulin because of the high carbohydrate content, which might lead to weight gain. I personally avoid it during my fasting days and stick to makhana or bhagar instead.
