Does risperidone cause weight gain?

My doctor prescribed Risperidone for me a few months back, and since then I've put on a noticeable amount of weight. I'm quite worried about it as it's affecting my self-esteem. Is weight gain a common side effect for people taking Risperidone?

Bro, my cousin was on this and he definitely put on some weight within a couple of months. He said he just wanted to munch on things all the time. Try to keep some healthy snacks like makhana nearby so you don't eat junk.

Listen, don't stress too much about this. Yes, it can cause weight gain because it makes you feel extra hungry, but you can definitely manage it. Just focus on your mental peace right now and we can tackle the weight part together, okay?

In my practice, we see weight gain quite often with this medication because it alters metabolism and increases appetite. Please do not stop taking the medicine abruptly because of this. Speak to your doctor, they can help adjust the dose or guide you.

It definitely slows down your metabolism and spikes hunger. The best way to counter this is tracking your daily steps and focusing on high-volume, low-calorie foods. A simple 30-minute daily strength routine can also help keep your metabolic rate up.

My mother used to say that any strong medicine needs proper food and rest to work. Weight gain is a known effect of this medicine, but we must trust our doctor's choice for our mental well-being. Regular walks and home-cooked meals will keep it in check.
