Does radiation cause hair loss?

My relative is undergoing radiation treatment. We were warned about possible hair loss. I wanted to confirm if radiation treatment generally causes hair loss.

Hair loss during radiation therapy only happens on the specific part of the body being treated, not all over like chemo. Please keep your spirits high and stay positive through this journey. Trust the process and take gentle care of your health, this phase will also pass beautifully.

Actually, my uncle might start therapy soon and I am a bit worried about this. Does the hair always fall out, or is it only for head treatments? If anyone has gone through this, please let me know how you managed.

My father's oncologist told us very clearly that radiation is localized. So if you are getting radiation on your chest or pelvis, you won't lose hair on your head. It only affects the area where the beam is targeted, and even then, the hair usually grows back after a few months of finishing therapy.

Haan babu, dhyan rakhna ki jahan machine ki sikai hoti hai sirf wahin ke baal jhadte hain. Pareshan mat hona, ilaj pura hone ke baad sab dhire dhire theek ho jata hai. Bhagwan sab acha karenge, himmat rakho.

Beta, the hair loss only happens where the treatment is happening, so don't worry unnecessarily. Once the treatment is completed, you can consult your doctor and slowly use mild things like cold-pressed coconut oil to soothe the scalp skin. Do not put any hard chemical oils on the treated area without asking your doctor.

It was so hard for me when my hair started thinning during the head radiation sessions, I cried for days. Looking in the mirror was tough, but I promise you, it gets better. Finding support groups and talking to people who understood my pain really helped me cope.

Yes, but only in the treated area. While you are undergoing therapy, focus on keeping your nutrition strong with protein-rich vegetarian foods like sprouts, paneer, and lentils. Good nutrition helps the skin and hair follicles recover much better once the treatment ends.

I completely understand how scary even the thought of losing hair can be, it used to give me panic attacks. But please be reassured that radiation isn't like chemo, it won't cause total hair fall unless your head is being treated. Try to take it one day at a time, you are stronger than you think.
