Does provera cause weight gain?

My gynecologist gave me Provera to help with my irregular periods. But since starting the medicine, I feel like I've put on some weight, and my clothes are feeling tighter. Is weight gain a known side effect of Provera?

Yes, it can cause weight gain and bloating because of hormonal changes. I ignored my symptoms for long when I was on hormonal therapy and regretted it later. Please get in touch with your gynaecologist and check if your dosage needs adjustments.

Hormone medicines like these often cause some water weight in the body. You should drink warm fennel seed water in the morning to reduce bloating naturally. But do not stop your prescribed medication without asking your doctor first.

Hey, don't stress too much about it! It does cause a bit of bloating and water retention, which feels like weight gain, but it usually goes away once the course is over. Just drink lots of water and eat light, okay?

I always try to drink ginger tea or coriander water to help with hormonal water retention. However, if you are noticing very sudden or rapid weight gain, please go see your doctor immediately to make sure everything is fine.

I completely understand how stressful it is to see the scale go up when you are already dealing with health issues. I had sleepless nights over this when I was prescribed Provera. Just remember it's mostly temporary water weight and you are doing the right thing by taking care of yourself.

Hormones affect everyone so differently. Even if five people say they didn't gain weight, your body might react differently. It is safest to call up your doctor and discuss this side effect so they can monitor you.
