Does.progesterone cause weight gain?

To help with my PCOS symptoms, my doctor prescribed progesterone supplements. I'm trying to be mindful of my weight and overall lifestyle. Does progesterone generally cause weight gain? I'm hoping to avoid any unnecessary weight changes while on this medication.

Yes, hormonal changes during these treatments can cause some water retention and bloating, making you feel heavier. Drinking warm fennel seed water in the morning can help reduce the bloating naturally. However, please do not stop any hormone tablets without consulting your gynecologist.

My doctor recently prescribed progesterone tablets to regulate my periods, and I'm really nervous about starting them. Does the weight gain happen immediately, or does it only happen if you take them for a long time? I would really appreciate any guidance.

My wife was on progesterone and let me tell you, the mood swings were way more intense than any weight gain! But yes, she did feel a bit bloated. Just keep some comfortable, loose clothes ready and remember it is mostly temporary water storage!

Actually, yes yaar, it makes you feel super bloated and heavy, especially around the stomach. I felt like I gained 2-3 kgs in just a couple of weeks, but it was mostly just water weight. It usually settles down once the course is over, so don't worry too much.

Progesterone can stimulate appetite and promote water retention due to its effect on aldosterone receptors. It's a very common side effect, but the extent of weight change varies from person to person. It is best to have a discussion with your doctor to understand your specific dosage and lifestyle management.

I have taken progesterone during both of my pregnancies and IVF cycles. The mild weight increase is almost always fluid retention rather than actual fat, and it goes away naturally. Keep your salt intake low to help with the swelling and stay well hydrated.

I totally get it, seeing the scale go up when you are already dealing with hormonal issues is so disheartening. Please be gentle with yourself right now. Progesterone slows down digestion and causes fluid retention, which isn't actual fat gain, so please don't stress.
