Does progesterone cause hair loss?

I started progesterone therapy a few months back for irregular periods. Since then, I've noticed a lot more hair fall than usual. Is it possible that progesterone is causing my hair to thin out?

Hormones can definitely affect your hair cycle, but nutrition plays a major role too. Make sure you are eating enough iron-rich foods like beetroot, spinach, and sesame seeds while you are on this medication. A healthy diet can help cushion your hair follicles from hormonal fluctuations.

Hey, don't stress too much about the hair fall right now. Sometimes starting a new hormonal treatment causes temporary shedding because the hair cycle gets a little shocked. It usually stabilizes on its own once your body gets used to the pills.

You can try applying mild lukewarm coconut oil with curry leaves to soothe your scalp, but don't rub it too hard if hair is already weak. If you feel the hair loss is very heavy and not stopping, it is best to consult your doctor. They might need to adjust your hormone doses.

With PCOS, I have noticed that any hormonal shift can trigger hair thinning or shedding. It is hard to say if it is just the progesterone or an underlying androgen imbalance. Keep a close track of your daily hair fall and discuss it with your endocrinologist calmly.

Seeing your hair fall out can be really upsetting, I understand how you feel. Just remember that it is often a temporary phase while your body adjusts to the treatment. Take care and don't lose hope.

My sister was on some progesterone pills and complained about hair thinning for a few weeks. But honestly, after a couple of months, it stopped completely and her hair went back to normal. Just give your body some time to adapt to the changes.
