Does prep cause weight gain?

I'm looking into starting PrEP as a preventive measure. I'm also quite conscious about my physique, so I was wondering if taking PrEP can cause weight gain as a side effect.

Hey, take a deep breath. A lot of people on PrEP worry about this, but medical studies show any weight gain is usually very minimal, maybe a kilo or two over a year, which is quite normal. Just focus on taking your medicine regularly and keeping yourself safe. I am always here if you need to talk.

Haha, honestly, I put on some weight after starting PrEP, but that’s probably because of my late-night biryani cravings and cheese parathas! Jokes aside, the medicine itself might cause a very slight change in some people, but mostly it's just our lifestyle. Keep eating good food but do a little walk too!

Clinical data suggests that some newer formulations of PrEP might be associated with slight weight gain compared to older ones, but the difference is generally quite small. It varies significantly based on individual metabolism and diet. It is best to have a candid discussion with your consulting doctor to monitor your metabolic parameters.

Look, getting worried about a little weight and skipping your safety medicine is foolishness. PrEP is very important for your health. If you feel you are gaining weight, start eating simple ghar ka khana and stop eating junk. Ask your doctor if you feel it's really the medicine doing it.

I've been on PrEP for about 8 months now. Personally, I didn't see any major change in my weight, maybe just a regular 1 kg difference which happens anyway. Don't worry too much about it, just hit the gym if you feel bloated. It's totally manageable.
