Does pregnancy make you thirsty?

I am constantly thirsty these days, no matter how much water I drink. I'm wondering if this extreme thirst is a normal symptom that comes with pregnancy.

Please don't ignore excessive thirst. My wife was constantly drinking water and we thought it was just normal pregnancy heat, but it turned out to be gestational diabetes. Please get your oral glucose tolerance test done on time.

I think my wife drank enough water to fill a small swimming pool during her second trimester. Just keep a huge bottle next to you at all times and get ready for the 50 bathroom trips that come with it!

Actually, I used to feel like a desert in my first trimester, yaar! I was gulping down liters of water and coconut water throughout the day. It is super common because your body needs extra fluids to build amniotic fluid.

Thirst is normal, but extreme, unquenchable thirst can sometimes point to high blood sugar levels during pregnancy. I had complications due to this, so I strongly advise you to mention this to your doctor and get your sugar levels checked.

To beat the thirst, you can try having fresh coconut water, buttermilk, or home-made nimbu paani instead of just plain water. However, if you are feeling dizzy or dry-mouthed constantly, consult your doctor immediately.

My daughter faced this extreme thirst throughout her pregnancy. We made sure she always had a bottle of warm water or barley water nearby. Just take small sips throughout the day rather than chugging a lot at once.

Your blood volume increases by almost 50% during pregnancy, which naturally triggers thirst. I used my smartwatch to set hourly hydration alerts so my wife didn't forget to drink water amidst her busy schedule.

Your body is nourishing a new life, which requires a lot of water and energy. Bless the water you drink, stay calm, and look at this as a beautiful process of cleansing. Take good care of your health.

I totally get it, feeling thirsty all the time can be so irritating when you already feel bloated. Your body is working double-time to support the baby, so it is just asking for resources. Be gentle with yourself and drink up!

Yes, increased fluid requirement is totally normal. Try keeping a copper bottle of water next to your bed at night.

Thyroid imbalances can also cause dry mouth and thirst during pregnancy, which I experienced firsthand. Make sure you are doing your regular blood panels and sharing these symptoms with your endocrinologist or gynecologist.

Instead of buying expensive electrolyte drinks or fancy flavored water, simple home-made nimbu paani with a pinch of salt and sugar works perfectly. It is super cheap and highly effective for staying hydrated.

I am drinking almost 4 liters of water a day and still my throat feels dry within minutes. I am really worried if this is a sign of some early issue. Did anyone else experience this much thirst in their sixth month?
