Does pregnancy make you poop more?

I've noticed a significant change in my bowel habits since I got pregnant, and I seem to be pooping more often. Is this a common occurrence, or something I should mention to my doctor?

Usually, pregnancy causes constipation because of iron tablets, but some women do experience frequent stools. Instead of spending money on expensive digestive supplements, just focus on eating high-fiber home-cooked food. It saves money and is much better for your stomach.

Don't worry too much, dear, your digestive system goes through a lot of changes right now. Some get constipated while others have an overactive bowel. Just drink plenty of water to stay hydrated and eat simple, clean meals.

Yes, it can happen, especially in early pregnancy due to sudden hormonal changes. It's totally normal.

Fluctuating hormones can definitely affect your bowel movements. Practicing very gentle Vajrasana after meals and keeping your mind calm can help regulate your digestion naturally. Listen to your body and don't force anything.

My doctor told me that while progesterone usually slows digestion down causing constipation, some women have the opposite reaction due to dietary changes or increased prostaglandins. If you have loose stools for more than two days, you must consult your doctor to prevent dehydration.

It is quite common for your bowel habits to change. Just make sure you are not experiencing any pain or dehydration, and keep your doctor informed during your regular visits.

Actually, my wife went through this in her first trimester, yaar. We thought it was some stomach infection, but the doctor said her body was just reacting to the hormonal rush. It settled down on its own after a few weeks.

I am experiencing this daily now and was feeling a bit embarrassed to ask. Is it really common to go multiple times a day, or should I be worried about my diet? Please let me know what worked for you.

With all the crazy spicy cravings and mid-night street food runs, your stomach is bound to react! Just try to balance the spicy cravings with some cold curd or buttermilk to keep your gut happy and running smoothly.

Having PCOS makes our digestion sensitive anyway, and pregnancy hormones add to that. I noticed my bowel movements changed quite a bit in the early weeks. It's best not to assume anything and discuss it gently with your gynae.

In my experience, my digestion went completely haywire during those months. Some weeks I was running to the bathroom constantly, and other weeks were the exact opposite. I just stuck to simple home-cooked khichdi during those phases.

If you are working, managing frequent bathroom trips can be really stressful. Keep simple curd-rice in your lunchbox to bind your stomach and avoid eating outside food during office hours. If it persists, just call your doctor.
