Does pregnancy make you itchy?

My skin has become really itchy all over my body, especially at night. It's making it hard to sleep. Is it normal for pregnancy to make you itchy, or should I be concerned?

My skin got incredibly itchy on my belly as it stretched during the third trimester. I found that applying organic coconut oil right after a bath helped lock in the moisture and relieved the stretching itch. Avoid hot water baths as they dry out the skin even more.

I just delivered last month and the itchiness in my late pregnancy was crazy. My doctor told me to use a mild, fragrance-free moisturizer and wear loose cotton clothes. It got so much better within a few days of switching to basic cotton wear.

My wife was scratching her stomach and palms constantly last winter during her pregnancy. We thought it was just dry skin, but her doctor did a blood test to check her liver enzymes. Definitely ask your doctor about it, just to be on the safer side.

Mild itching is very common as your skin stretches, but if you have severe itching on your palms and the soles of your feet without any rash, please contact your doctor immediately. This could be a condition called cholestasis, which needs proper medical evaluation and a simple liver function test.

Don't ignore severe itchiness thinking it is just dry skin. Go to your gynaecologist and get a liver function test done right away. It's always better to rule out any complications early rather than suffering through sleepless, itchy nights.

Itching can be a normal sign of stretching skin, but it can also indicate internal issues like liver strain during pregnancy. Please do not apply random herbal creams without showing it to your doctor first. Get a proper checkup done for safety.
