Does pregnancy cause hypotension?

Lately, I've been feeling quite dizzy and lightheaded, especially when I stand up quickly. My doctor said my blood pressure is a bit low, and I'm wondering if this is a normal thing to happen during pregnancy.

Yes, during the first 24 weeks of pregnancy, the circulatory system expands rapidly, which commonly causes blood pressure to drop. While mild dizziness upon standing up is typical, any severe fainting spells need to be evaluated. It is best to consult your doctor to ensure your levels are monitored safely.

It definitely does, as the blood vessels dilate to supply the baby. Make sure you don't jump out of bed too quickly; sit up on the edge for a minute first. Keep yourself well-hydrated with lemon water or coconut water, and if you ever feel extremely weak or faint, get your BP checked immediately.

Haan, low BP ki wajah se chakkar aana toh bohot common hai, na. My mother used to give me salty nimbu paani whenever I felt weak, and it worked like magic. Just make sure to rest and don't stand in hot places for too long.

My sister used to get super dizzy and lightheaded whenever she stood up quickly during her early pregnancy. Her doctor told her it was just low BP because her body was working double-time. She had to start carrying ORS packets and water everywhere.

Low BP is quite common as the circulatory system expands. I always suggest doing light, low-impact daily walks to keep your circulation active, provided your gynaecologist has cleared you for exercise. Just avoid sudden movements and keep a water bottle handy.
