Does parathyroidism cause weight gain?

My uncle was recently diagnosed with parathyroidism, and he's also gained a lot of weight in the last year. He's worried about this sudden increase. Is weight gain a common symptom or effect of parathyroidism?

Yes, I recently got treated for hyperparathyroidism and I definitely gained weight and felt extremely fatigued before my surgery. Your metabolism gets completely messed up because of high calcium levels. Once the bad gland was removed, my energy came back and my weight started normalizing.

Bro, hormonal stuff is so annoying. My aunt had this parathyroid thing and she was gaining weight even though she barely ate anything. It is definitely a real symptom, so better get your blood tested instead of stressing about diet.

Yes, it can cause weight gain and muscle weakness, which makes it harder to stay active. I track my daily activity and when hormones are off, your metabolic rate drops significantly. Keeping a log of your symptoms and sharing it with an endocrinologist is the best way to tackle this.

I ignored my fatigue, joint pain, and weight gain for two years thinking it was just old age, until a blood test showed dangerously high calcium levels from parathyroid disease. Don't make the same mistake I did. Go get your parathyroid hormone (PTH) and calcium levels checked immediately.

Dealing with hormonal issues like PCOS makes me understand how frustrating unexplained weight gain is. Parathyroid issues can definitely cause fatigue and weight changes because they control calcium levels which affect metabolism. Please don't be hard on yourself, get a proper hormone panel done by an expert.

Yes, parathyroid disorders, particularly hyperparathyroidism, can lead to weight gain, chronic fatigue, and joint pain due to calcium imbalances. It is a complex endocrine issue that requires proper clinical evaluation. Please consult an experienced endocrinologist for an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan.

Haan na, weight gain and heavy fatigue are very common with parathyroid problems. Sharir mein calcium balance kharab ho jata hai, so you feel tired all the time. Proper doctor ko dikha ke treatment shuru karo, sab thik ho jayega.
