Does olanzapine cause weight gain?

My doctor recently prescribed Olanzapine for me, and I've started taking it. I read online that weight gain can be a side effect, which worries me. Is it common to experience significant weight gain while on Olanzapine medication?

Yes, it is very well known to cause significant weight gain. Keeping a strict watch on your daily diet and consulting your doctor for alternatives is highly recommended.

I had the same issue with olanzapine last year and it really affected my confidence. What helped me was portion control and drinking lots of water to manage the sudden hunger pangs. Talk to your doctor openly about this, they can sometimes adjust the dose.

My doctor put me on this and suddenly my waistline expanded faster than my savings! It definitely makes you want to eat everything in sight. Just keep some healthy snacks nearby, otherwise you'll be buying a whole new wardrobe like me.

I panicked so much when I gained five kilos in the first month of taking this medication. But once my body adjusted and I started doing light daily walks, the rapid weight gain stopped. It is a very common side effect, so please don't let it scare you too much.

I completely understand how stressful it is to balance your mental health while worrying about gaining weight. It gave me so much anxiety when my clothes stopped fitting. Please remember your mental peace is the top priority, and you can always work with your doctor to manage weight issues.

Oh man, this medicine turned me into a midnight kitchen raider! The cravings for sweets and carbs were unreal. I had to replace my stash of biscuits with roasted chana and cucumber slices just to survive the munchies without blowing up.

These strong psychiatric medicines often increase your appetite and slow down digestion. Try drinking warm fennel water in the morning and eating fiber-rich food to keep your stomach full. But please do not stop taking your medicine without your doctor's permission.

My daughter was prescribed this and we noticed her appetite increased dramatically within a week. I started preparing healthier, low-calorie home meals and kept junk food out of the house to help her manage it. Do keep a close watch and talk to her doctor about your concerns.

Yes, olanzapine is notorious for metabolic side effects and weight gain. If it's becoming a major issue, discuss it directly with your psychiatrist. There are other weight-neutral options they can switch you to if your body isn't tolerating this one.

Honestly, I gained around 8 kgs while preparing for exams on this med. It was super annoying but my doc helped me manage it by changing my schedule. Definitely talk to your doctor instead of trying extreme diets during college.
