Does oily hair cause hair loss?
My hair tends to get oily very quickly, and I'm also noticing more hair fall than before. I'm wondering if there's a connection. Can having naturally oily hair or an oily scalp actually contribute to hair loss?

Oily hair itself doesn't directly cause your hair to fall out, so don't worry too much. But if you let excess sebum build up, it can clog the hair follicles and cause irritation which leads to shedding. Just wash your hair regularly with a mild shampoo and keep your scalp clean.
For me, my oily hair and hair loss were both caused by hormonal imbalances from my PCOS. Excess male hormones can trigger both oily skin and hair thinning. It is best to get your hormone levels checked rather than just treating the oiliness on the surface.
It is completely fine to have an oily scalp, some people just naturally produce more sebum. Regular gentle washing should keep it balanced and prevent any extra shedding. Take care and don't let it stress you too much.
I have super oily hair too and noticed more hair fall when I didn't wash it for three or four days. Now I wash my hair every alternate day with a clarifying shampoo, and the shedding has decreased so much. Keeping a clean scalp is key!
