Does oestrogen cause weight gain?

I'm approaching menopause, and my doctor talked about hormonal changes. I've also noticed some weight gain recently, especially around my mid-section. Does estrogen, or changes in its levels, typically cause weight gain during this phase of life?

High estrogen levels can make you crave sugary and salty snacks like crazy, which definitely leads to weight gain! I had to consciously replace my evening biscuits with roasted makhana to manage those hormonal cravings.

I tried everything from spearmint tea to flax seeds when my hormones were fluctuating and causing weight gain. Estrogen dominance can make you hold onto fat, especially around the hips. Drinking warm fennel water daily helped me digestion-wise, but balanced meals are key.

High estrogen can cause water retention, making you feel bloated and heavy. Instead of worrying, just cut down on pickles and processed salt, and try to drink at least 3 liters of plain water daily to flush out the excess fluids.

My wife's gynecologist explained that estrogen promotes fat storage and water retention when it is not balanced by progesterone. She advised that managing stress and liver health is crucial, as the liver metabolizes excess estrogen out of the body.

My daughter gained weight suddenly due to estrogen imbalances from PCOS. We avoided outside junk food completely, made her sleep on time, and she slowly started losing the puffiness naturally. It just needs patience and a steady routine.

I can only speak from my experience of being on hormonal therapy. I noticed a gain of about 3 kgs, mostly around my tummy and face, which my doctor said was common fluid retention. It stabilized after a few months.

As vegetarians, we can manage estrogen levels by increasing fiber intake through green leafy vegetables and cruciferous veggies like broccoli, which help eliminate excess hormones. Avoid soy products if you suspect estrogen dominance.

I totally feel you, hormonal weight gain is so frustrating because you feel heavy even when you are eating clean. Just focus on sleeping well and moving your body, and don't let the scale stress you out too much.

Hormonal changes can definitely slow down your metabolism, but you can fight it. A daily 45-minute brisk walk and light strength training, if your physician clears you, is excellent for balancing hormones and keeping weight off.
