Does obesity cause hair loss?

I've noticed quite a bit of hair fall recently, and I'm also struggling with obesity. Someone suggested there might be a connection between the two. Can excess weight or obesity actually be a cause for hair loss?

I was losing clumps of hair when my weight shot up last year and I panicked thinking I would go bald. But once I balanced my diet and hormonal health, the hair fall completely stopped. It's very common and completely reversible, so please don't worry.

My daughter faced severe hair fall when she gained weight during her board exams. We focused on giving her nutritious home-cooked meals with almonds and curry leaves, and encouraged her to do light play. Her hair health improved beautifully as her weight normalized.

Obesity often correlates with hormonal imbalances like insulin resistance, which can trigger hair thinning. However, since hair fall can also stem from vitamin deficiencies or genetics, consulting a dermatologist is the best way to find the exact cause.

I totally get it, seeing your hair thin out while struggling with weight issues can be incredibly stressful and emotional. Obesity can cause scalp inflammation and hormonal shifts that lead to hair fall. Please be gentle with yourself as you work on your health.

My trichologist explained that obesity induces systemic inflammation, which can affect the hair follicles' growth cycle and cause telogen effluvium. He advised that managing metabolic health through diet is crucial to stopping this type of hair loss.

Excess body fat disrupts the body's natural systems, which can weaken the hair roots. You can gently apply homemade onion juice or amla oil to your scalp twice a week, but also make sure you eat simple home foods and walk daily to keep your weight in check.
