Does oatmeal cause weight gain?

I've started eating oatmeal for breakfast every day, thinking it's a healthy way to start the day. But my friend said it has a lot of carbs and can actually make you gain weight if not careful. Is oatmeal generally associated with weight gain?

Oatmeal won't make you gain weight unless you are in a caloric surplus. It is actually a great source of complex carbs and keeps you full for your workouts. Just measure your portions, don't load it with peanut butter or honey, and keep track of your daily macros.

I can only speak from my own journey, but having oatmeal with water and a handful of almonds actually helped me manage my weight. When I used to eat parathas for breakfast, I felt heavy, but oats keep me energetic till lunch.

Hey, don't stress too much about oatmeal causing weight gain! It's super healthy and actually keeps your digestion on track. Just have a small bowl with some fresh fruits and enjoy your breakfast without any guilt.

My college-going daughter was worried about gaining weight from oats as she sits all day studying. We found that cooking plain rolled oats with double water and adding chopped apple kept her full and active without any weight changes. It is all about how you prepare it.

I have been eating rolled oats for the last ten years now and my weight has remained absolutely stable. The trick is to avoid packaged 'instant' flavored oats as they are full of sugar and chemicals. Stick to plain old rolled or steel-cut oats for best results.
