Does nortriptyline cause weight gain?

My doctor recently prescribed me Nortriptyline for chronic nerve pain. I'm already trying to manage my weight and I've heard some medications can cause weight gain. I wanted to know if this is a common side effect of Nortriptyline.

Honestly, this medicine makes me so sleepy and gives me such crazy midnight cravings that I have definitely put on a few kilos. It is like my self-control goes to sleep before I do! But hey, at least I am finally getting some rest, so I can't complain too much.

Yeah bro, I gained about 5 kgs in two months on this pill. It just makes you feel hungry all the time, especially for carbs. I had to start hitting the gym much harder and tracking my food strictly to get back in shape.

Weight gain is a documented side effect of tricyclic antidepressants like nortriptyline. If you are busy with work and can't find time to exercise, try meal-prepping healthy snacks so you don't eat junk when the cravings hit. Keep your doctor updated if the gain is too rapid.

Yes, nortriptyline can alter your metabolism and increase your appetite for sweet things. I track my daily calories and steps on my fitness app, and I noticed my passive calorie burn dropped slightly after starting it. Keeping an active routine really helps offset this.

Do not stop taking your prescribed nortriptyline just because of fear of weight gain based on online comments. Every individual's metabolic response to tricyclic medications is completely different. Discuss your concerns directly with your doctor, who can adjust the dose if needed.

Since this medicine can slow down your digestion and increase appetite, focusing on high-fiber vegetarian foods is very helpful. Swap normal rice for brown rice, and eat lots of cucumber and salads to keep yourself full without adding extra calories.

Omg yes! I was prescribed this for my chronic migraines and I definitely noticed my jeans fitting tighter after a month. It just makes me want to snack while studying late at night. I am trying to switch to roasted makhana instead of chips now.
