Does norgestimate-ethinyl estradiol cause weight gain?

My doctor prescribed me a contraceptive with norgestimate-ethinyl estradiol. I am a bit worried about potential side effects, especially weight gain, as I have been working hard to maintain my current weight. Is this a common issue with this type of pill?

I had a very tough time with hormonal pills because my blood pressure shot up along with sudden weight gain. Please do not ignore any rapid weight changes or severe headaches while on this pill. It is extremely important to report these symptoms to your gynecologist immediately.

Honestly, at this age, looking at a gulab jamun causes weight gain for me! But yes, these hormonal medicines do cause some bloating and heavy feeling initially. Don't worry too much, just keep moving and eat in moderation.

I am about to start this pill next week for my painful periods, and I am quite nervous about the physical changes. Does the bloating start immediately on the first day, or does it happen gradually over a month?

When I visited my doctor at Apollo Hospital, she explained that this low-dose combination rarely causes actual fat gain. Most of what patients feel is just temporary water retention. I highly recommend discussing your complete medical history with your doctor to get personalized clarity.

While clinical literature suggests that modern oral contraceptives have minimal impact on body weight, individual responses can vary. Some might experience mild changes in appetite or fluid balance. Your gynecologist is the best person to evaluate if this specific formulation is right for you.
