Does mirtazapine cause weight gain?

My psychiatrist recently prescribed mirtazapine for my condition, and I'm a bit worried about its side effects. I've read online that it can cause weight gain. Is this a common experience for people taking this medication?

Oh absolutely, it is like your appetite gets a turbo boost! 😅 I started craving sweets out of nowhere after starting it. Just keep some healthy snacks like roasted makhana nearby so you don't overdo the heavy stuff!

Honestly, yes, it did make me feel much hungrier, especially at night. It is quite common but please try not to stress too much about it. Just keep your doctor in the loop about how you are feeling.

Yes, it does increase weight for many because of sudden food cravings. When I faced this, I started drinking warm water with ajwain or eating a piece of cucumber whenever the hunger pangs hit. But do check with your doctor if it becomes hard to manage.

With my PCOS, weight is always a sensitive topic, and medicines like these do make it trickier. I noticed an increase in water retention too when my doctor tried me on a similar class of meds. Best to discuss a diet plan with your doctor beforehand.

I was actually researching this drug last week for my cousin. From what I read, it changes how your brain signals fullness, so you end up eating more without realizing. Quite a common side effect apparently.
